Welcome to the 22nd Annual Meeting of Japanese Academy of Maxillofacial Implants and the Pan Pacific Implant Society (PPIS) Winter Meeting 2018 in Tokyo.
First of all, I would like to thank the chief director, Dr. Kan-ichi Seto, and everyone in the Society for giving us the opportunity to hold this conference. Our department hosted the 10th convention 12 years ago in 2006 under the direction from Dr. Soichiro Asanami. We are greatly honored for the opportunity once again.
The theme of this event is “Diversity”. The meaning of this “Diversity” is that maxillofacial implantology and maxillofacial implant therapy require cooperation from various occupations from basic research to clinical dental and medical care. Also taken into consideration is that the venue is called “Daiba City”.
With the conscious effort to expand PPIS, Tokyo International Exchange Center is chosen as a venue for its easy access to the Haneda Airport, conveniently located for the attendees from different parts of Japan and all over the world.
We have invited the president of NTT docomo, Mr. Kazuhiro Yoshizawa, who will speak on “5G Comprehensive Communication Strategy for the Tokyo Olympic Games”, how the cutting edge wireless communication technology will intervene the future medical care. The educational lecture will be given by Dr. Takeshi Miyamoto, from Dept. of orthopedic surgery, School of medicine, Keio university, about the bone metabolism, including ARONJ.
There will also be a symposium as a joint project with Japanese Society of Oral Implantology with the theme of peri-implantitis and fracture of implants which can occur due to the long-term course of implants. PPIS sessions of maxillofacial implant treatment planning and reconstructive procedure for the defect of anterior region, and a symposium of stem cell / iPS cell trend by young researchers will be discussed.
Although there are various entertaining places in Odaiba, please stay and join in discussions and gatherings.
I sincerely express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who cooperated and supported this event. Thank you very much.
